Here, I've placed a section break at the end of the first page (and at the end of page 3), then clicked on the thumbnail for page 2. Once they are in a section, the page(s) can be dragged (by their thumbnails-less painful than it sounds) to a new location (that must also be between two sections or at one end of the document. If you want to move a whole page (or more than one page) in a word processing document, you need to start by inserting section breaks before and after the page(s) to be moved to place it/them in a section. ![]() ![]() If you move a large enough chunk of text to a different section, the source section may lose a page, and the receiving section may get another page, depending on the number of pages needed to accommodate the text in its new location. ![]() Here, if you want to move content within a section (or to a new section), you select the content, Cut (command-X), place the insertion point where you want that content to start, and Paste. In the screen shot below, the first three pages are in the selected section (outlined in yellow), while page 4 in in a different section and is not included in the selection. In the thumbnails view, the selected section may contain more than one page (and if no section break has been inserted into the document, will contain all the pages). Word processing documents may be recognized by an Insert Button menu that starts with Page Break and, if the insertion point has been in the text, has most items in black. Since each page in a Page Layout document, and only one section may be selected at a time, each page must be moved (or copied or deleted) individually. In the thumbnails view, the selected section (outlined in yellow) is always a single page Page Layout documents can be recognized by an Insert Button menu that starts with Page and, unless the insertion point is in a text box, has all the other items greyed out. The selected section may be dragged to a new location and dropped between two other sections, may be deleted, may be duplicated, or may be copied then pasted into a new location or into a different document. Only one section can be selected at a time. Sections can be selected in the Thumbnails view. In a Word Processing document, a Section is like a Chapter, and pages are added automatically to the Section as text is added (and dropped automatically as text is deleted.) New Sections are added by inserting a Section Break. New Pages are also new Sections, and are added using the Insert Button. In a Page Layout document, each page is a separate section. Page Layout for Flyers, Brochures, and other documents that will be likely heavy on graphics and light on text, Word Processing for letters, essays and other documents that will be mostly text with few or no pictures. Checking just now with Pages 5.6.2, this functionality seems to be pretty much the same as it was in Pages '09.Īlthough the new Pages doesn't separate them in the Template Chooser, and no longer identifies them in the title bar, it still uses two basic types of template: ![]()
